M.A.S.H. takes great pride in its Honor Gardens, where communities, fraternal organizations, and veterans cultivate fruits and vegetables. Our M.A.S.H. Veteran Honor Garden Program was launched in the Spring of 2021, and it has been embraced by nine different communities eager to support our military, veterans, first responders, and their families. The produce from these gardens nourishes the tables of our veterans and first responders.
(Our initial greenhouse and garden locations included Delaware, Ross, Pickaway, Franklin, and Marion counties.)
While our initial efforts were commendable, we faced challenges with the quality of the residential greenhouses we used due to limited funds. We are now seeking support to acquire professional-grade greenhouse units.
We aim to purchase Amish commercial-grade greenhouses to replace the nine community gardens and continue promoting gardens throughout Ohio. The Honor Gardens & Greenhouses provide veterans with access to healthy foods and offer them a sense of purpose as they nurture tiny seeds, fostering a community spirit among comrades. Ultimately, they reap the rewards of their labor with a bountiful harvest. The Honor Gardens have proven to be a therapeutic endeavor, offering veterans a multitude of benefits, including immune system boosts, deeper connections, meaningful work, enhanced self-esteem, reduced stress, increased exercise, and the revitalizing effects of sunlight and vitamin D. We are proud to partner with The Ohio State University and the Central Ohio Beekeepers Association (COBA), Veterans Beekeeping School provides additional opportunities for our veterans to stay active, find purpose, and benefit the community.
Seasonal: Spring/Summer
*Veteran Posts & First Responders will receive the harvest. EVERYTHING grown will go back into the community. Honoring our Veterans, Military families, Survivors, and First Responders
